Linux: choosing a language at graphical logon…

Many Linux users have the availability to choose a language when they log on under the graphical interface, but except when we need it, we rarely measure how important this feature is!

So, why is this so essential?

Just suppose that you’re French, that you’re able to speak English, French and a little German… You may have Windows XP in French (or you may don’t have Windows at all…). Now suppose you have a Polish or an Italian friend. Knowing that you’re quite good at using computers, he/she may ask you for some help…
But how could you help him/her easily if you don’t know exactly the software he/she use (for example because the organization has changed between XP and Vista) and if you don’t understand at all what is written on the screen?
Yes in this case, things may be hard for you!

Or if you are in a foreign country and if you’re trying to get (even paid) help and if you’re computer operating system is neither in English, nor in a common language in the country you are, how will you do?

So it is quite easy to see the advantage of being able to choose easily the language at logon dialog… Another advantage in favor of most Linux distributions! (and by the way another thing to think about if you write software…)
